I'm sorry C Bob. I got a call from my real estate agent (I've sold the old house I moved out of) and closing is next Tues. He needed me to go to Telmex to arrange transfer of phone and we sat forever waiting. It was way too late to go to Istlahuacan by the time we were done. He had all the papers signed by me but they would not do it without me there with my ID. You have no idea how happy I am to sell the house in this market.

Disappointing when 20 folks make reservations and half show up. Tell you what, Roberto. When we get to the boat trip across the lake and lunch at Los Crotos, which I reallly want to do, not only will I be there, but would be happy to take charge and relieve you of the burden. We have a member Nocando arriving late next week. We would like to do a board meeting/swarm/welcoming party sometime on or before July 17/12. I would love to do the water taxi but it isn't big enough for such a large event. I could draw the next restaurant from the swarm bucket and we could go there to combine all 3 functions? I am open to suggestions here.

Just let me know when it fits into the "swarm" schedule. I would not mind if we waited until August when Axixic arrives. Then we can get together and toss his ass overboard. Now, that would be fun. Would we have to rescue him, too? Maybe, we could just toss him a lifesaver. I will ask him what flavor he prefers. chico

We did a group water taxi gig to Los Grotos and we required everyone to pay their part of the boat fee in advance. Everyone showed up.

I think I mentioned this trip before, it was great! They brought their bigger, very comfortable boat and had cold beer, soda and water on board, gratis. If you haven't taken the cross lake boat trip, gather some friends, call the number and set it up and go.

How many folks does the bigger and better boat hold? And how did you collect deposits from folks? Great Idea, just trying to figure out the logistics of how to collect deposits. Thinking I might just set this boat trip and luncheon up all by my lonesome and simply announce the date, rather than asking for input. If folks want to go, they will. If they do not, they won't. chico

I believe the boat will hold about a dozen. We simply told everyone they had to pay their share, 150 pesos per person, in advance. That way, we had the money for the boat regardless of who showed up.

Since only 10 showed up, there are obviously a number of people who had no intention of actually benefiting the restaurants and viewed this as a maybe social get together where they could be seen. Has it dawned on any of the no shows that you probably did damage to the restaurant? If they brought in extra food or help after CB made the reservation, they probably have an enlightened lack of respect for some in the Gringo community. Nice going to all of the no shows!

I think the foul weather earlier today and distance probably played a factor. I knew of a couple that had emergencies crop up too.

Some of us laid down some pretty heavy tips so I think that aspect may have been covered but you make a good point.

Maybe I was too heavy with my comments outside of the Octagon but I come from the school that when one makes a commitment, they carry through. Excuses after the fact just don't cut it in my book!

Please have it other than a Tuesday. I am back and would love to come.

I’m pretty sure that you all know CG & I do have difference of opinion but he does have a very valid issue here.

Personally, IMHO you are having way too many swarming get-togethers. Have one every 2 or 3 months and while you’re together see if there are a few that would just like to get together for a simple meal in a couple of weeks, set a date, don’t make it a big production and keep it among yourselves. Don’t make reservations until you’re as sure as you can be. Yes, this will take a lot of effort on the “Host” so think about this before you agree to do so.

It’s still a great idea; it just needs a little fine tuning.

Now, if the “Dawg” will permit I’d like to reminisce about this issue in my past. We loved to square dance (No drinking allowed) but we joined a large group just to get involved. Being new to the community we also wanted to meet new friends. In short many of us just wanted a little more conversation after dancing so we started inviting those that showed an interest home for a few drinks and conversation. Well it just grew beyond our expectations and our “wallet” so we decided to start meeting at restaurants, and yes those that decided they couldn’t or didn’t want to afford this dropped out but in the end we had a great group

Here's my two centavos worth. I used to have our dinner group get togethers once a month, then decided to do them twice a month. I think getting our group together twice a month was no big deal since a lot of them like to eat out.

When someone suggested that I go back to once a month, my answer was a flat no. I said those who didn't want to go twice a month could go once a month.

Parkers suggestion of once every 2 - 3 months would not help out a restaurant.
