Jim, Do the police still operate a speed sting in Mexico just south of the Laredo crossing? When I came down one time I was stopped by Mexican police who day I was speeding. Had no idea if I was. They took a 200 peso bribe and I was on my way. Don't know if this is still going on and still don't know what the speed limit is in that area. I've only done the Laredo crossing.

One other thing on going through Hermosillo.
If the detour is still there... they may be done with it by now.

I will check w/ folks who have come south in the last few weeks, and get back with you if it has changed.

The detour signs are sort of burnt orange and not very bright (like in US) but they are quite visible.
As you travel south around the east side of the city, move toward the right side of the highway as or before you pass the prison. The detour will put you on a wide street going west to hwy 15.

Remember this is truck route... LD buses and 18 wheelers will be going your way.
Last time down we just followed a bus going to Huatabampo.

Keep to the speed limit and watch the lights... on occasion the cops get overenthusiastic.
We have never been bothered, and neither have most folks, but be aware. Lizzy

Thanks again, Lizzy.

I have actually created a Word document and copy and paste all of this great information into it so I can print it off and take it with me for the trip.

You guys are awesome.

Hopefully they fixed it but at one point past the prison where you follow the little orange detour signs there
was a big green sign for Guamas that said straight. In other words they put the signs up before they finished
the road LOL. The last time I was there there were little orange cones and small orange signs saying guamas
and detour. Has anyone come south lately to verify that that the obscure detour is still there? This is for
south. North is easy just follow the signs.

Zed... there is/was a different detour for auto traffic.

It kept south and then exited the periferico to make detour.

The one that we take is truck and bus route... more direct, on much wider streets. L

When we came to PV we used http://www.ontheroadin.com/ for a detailed driving map. It really came in handy with topes and toll booth prices. You could also Google "road maps for Mexico"

Axixic... I just got this from a friend in San Carlos. He's 11 yr resident, lotta back'n'forth to the border. This is the route through town that Bob and I took until the construction and detour set in. It's good... we pull our 16ft TT.
Check it out, & see what you think. Lizzy

I believe ya we just follow the signs that say Guaymas on 15 and for a while there after the prison there were literally
two signs pointing in two different directions for Guaymas. The correct one is the exit with the small sign and the
orange road cones going right.

Of course, there is absolutely no chance that the small signs or cones might get moved between now and August?

Let us not be unrealistic...
It is obvious that if they leave them up long enough there will be more construction and they will be needed.
And why move them if they will be needed? Lizzy

Uhh the cones have been there at least a year or two. I think they will stay there until they finish the road and connect it back up to 15
which could be another year ???? who knows.
