You really should get out more often John. Your cloistered view of life in Mexico is less than that of the Curiosity rover that just landed on Mars.

Actually I do get out a lot, but I don't go to your swarms where I'm not wanted by the jerks on this forum who you think are funny. I don't need more abuse by the psychos and drunks on this forum.

I would go crazy if I let the terrible drivers get to me. My philosophy for driving in town is : If nobody gets hurt, it's OK!

My philosophy for driving in town or on the carretera is have 4 eyes and drive defensively. You know these people never had driver training and get angry behind the wheel. They gotta be first.

Would that not be self-abuse?

Sure John, I kid you, and yes you are very very fun to tease, but I also thank you for the great effort you put into your lists of information.

That said, I tried “Friending” you on your Facebook account and we are now friends. Thanks. But please post some more pictures other than that pretty lady that I think went to school with you and your picture that I think came from a swarm.

Seriously, one of the reasons I go to the swarm is hoping you show up so that any teasing is meant out of well meaning not hate mongering.

That is one of the things I like about this forum. We can tease each other. The problem is that on line, you can not see the smile as one teases.

PS I will post the link to John's Facebook page later so that anyone else wanting to friend John can do so to show that they are friends.

Carry, you don't have facebook do you. Or you would know it's easy to find ones account using either Facebook search or Google search.

You may also not remember that his Facebook name was posted on this forum a couple of days ago. I'm just repeating it so that those who missed it can Friend him if they want and let him know that we like him. He has added a new picture to his wall.

Remember Carry, if he doesn't want to be your friend, all he needs to do is turn you down when you ask if you can be his friend.

Like many on this forum John doesn't show his full name. Just open your Facebook account and in the top search bar enter

Uruguay Juan Mengele.

And you can welcome him to Facebook like I did. And if you have met him you will recognize his picture. Because I was not sure what John looked like I asked a fellow poster if that was him and he assured me that it is indeed Johninajijic

Complete and total paranoia is the key to never getting crashed on a bike in all those years.

Remember, Mexican rules of the road:

1. He who is in front, wins.
2. Size matters.
3. Only the paranoid survive.

If you want to see crazy driving, pull into that favorite enclave of dingy gringo drivers, the Superlake Parking Lot. Shocked
The mix: Elderly driver with huge vehicle, can't hear, and doesn't look before backing up. Might even be calling home on cell phone at the same time. Whomp!

The good ol' US of A has it's fair share of micro-cephalic idiots on the road too.
Here in sunny Salida I was nearly T-boned by a woman in an SUV... pea-brain ran a stop sign at full speed with her cell phone stuck in her ear and her head up in a dark place. Only thing saved me was an instinct for self-preservation.
Broad daylight it was, too.
She'd a killed me for sure in that Honda Accord. I nominated her for next year's "Darwin Awards." Lizzy

The day they enforce a no-cell-phone rule with heavy fines will be a great day for vehicle safety. The Darwin awards winner in my experience was the girl putting on her makeup while talking on the cell phone along with intermittent attention to a breakfast McMuffin. This was on a busy NOB freeway. They live among us, and they reproduce. Shocked

NEVER we go there, NEVER!

LOL, what an accurate description. Congrats BTW on having your power back on and surving a "close encounter of the third kind" with CFE.

Saturday, we drove the 182 miles from Chapala to Centro Morelia. We started counting in Riberas and happy to report that there are 123 topes between there and the cuota entrance at Ocotlan and another 85 between that entrance and Centro Morelia for a total of 208. Yesterday, we drove the 475 miles from Centro Morelia to Centro Oaxaca with a total of 178 topes.

A few observations on the drive from Morelia to Oaxaca:
1) The green of the scenery starting in Michoacan and onto the Arco Norte is quite striking. While one doesn't get the impression that they are traversing at such a high altitude, we peaked at 8894'.
2) As one gets close to Puebla, the scenery changes dramatically and turns to your basic ugly and boring.
3) The closer one gets to Oaxaca, you enter a mountainous zone with some incredible scenery. It was somewhat dreary and drizzling, so not much in the way of opportunities to take photos - hopefully on our return to Puebla next Friday.

In all of our years of driving in Mexico, we have never seen so many Federales both on the move, setup with radar and setup at checkpoints! Only two checkpoints on our side of the highway - one they let us go sailing by and the other we had to come to a full stop before being waved on.
