Telephone extortion scam

I believe I've read of this type of scam here on the forum before. I'm hoping someone can direct me to it so I can send a copy to my mother as it happened to us, but she does not believe us. This is how the scam goes. A close relative gets a call ( in my case it was my mom & dad) saying my husband was in a bad car accident in Mexico City and need my parents to send $1,500.00 USD.
Any help would be appreciated!!!

It might be best to notify anyone you know not to fall for it. I didn't think anyone would fall for this stuff.

I know of at least one couple who did fall for it. In their case it was not a close relative, but someone that they did know.

Most of these calls originate from prison convicts with cell phones,some of whom are pretty clever ,try googling "estafas por telefono".

I too did not think many would fall for such a thing, so when I first heard of it many months ago I did nothing. However, now that I know I have some very gullible relatives (elderly, I might add and out of the tech loop) Ive contacted everyone to inform them.
Just for everyones own edification, these guys even manipulated the receivers caller ID so that it said that it was indeed me calling. The wonders of the computer age.
