We'll be traveling to Ajijic in late March for a couple of days. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel, not too expensive? I speak Spanish. Thanks.

You could take a look at the Hotel Casa Blanca. It is located on 16 de Septiembre very close to the LCS and everything else. No car necessary.

If you decide to spend some time in Chapala you can also check out the El Pequeno Hotel. No car necessary.

http://www.elpequenohotel.com/

If you want a more scenic, country environment you can check out the Hotel Perico. Some form of transportation is necessary here.

We stayed at the Casa Blanca in 2010 and it was jusrt OK. However it has since been remodled and I believe has new owners. In my opinion it's only strong point was location. Look at Trip Advisor for reviews/recommendations.

Hey, if you check out Casa Blanca you can see the Trivia Trophy in Bogart's bar.
It's my understanding that some of the smartest folks in Ajijic sometimes watch Jeopardy down there. 6pm

It is a nice place and is close to everything, too.

If you are bringing a car or planning to rent one, the Hotel Nueva Posada has secure parking as well as full restaurant service, and some of the rooms have great lake views. They have a website.

The only parking available for Casa Blanca or Estrellita's is on the street, though they are both nice places. No problem for walking to everything: lake, town, etc.

Not my garage, bud. Why d'ya think we bought that overpriced dump? Gloat.

At the time, it was Casa Blanca's "overflow" hotel rooms and 4 car tandem parking. It was okay unless you wanted to take a bath and mud emerged from the tap and leaked out all over the floor around the tub. It had other "special" features, too. Shocked LOL

The parking place directly in front of Estrellita's was assigned to Casa Blanca, officially, with yellow stripes. Go figure.

No, there is actually a secured parking place a few blocks down the street. I plan on getting a monthly rate there for my van. My Vocho fits in the garage.....jajaja.

I've heard there's a place not too far away. Hope it works out.
Since we don't live in the Most Secure Gated Community, we just got it down to one small car with additional shoe leather transport. Very Happy

There is a new one opening, up to $1000 pesos a month but with automatic doors. I do not remember if it is going to be staffed 24/7 but it might be. There is another one up on Constitution but it is not an in-and-out arrangement and more conducive to longterm storage.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I may be back with more questions. I inadvertently booked us for Semana Santa, so I imagine these hotels are really getting booked quickly.

If you want something inexpensive, take a look at Ajijic Suites (a few blocks west of the Ajijic plaza) on Hidalgo. Very clean and you get a lot for your money. If you need Internet in your room, ask about something close to the office. No breakfast, but each room has a nice kitchenette. Website: http://www.ajijicsuites.com/

Los Artistas is a few blocks east of the Plaza, very close to the south end of the Wednesday tianguis, so it's an easy walk. Very nice, large garden. Good place if you're a dog person and want furry companions during your visit. Nice breakfast. Website: http://www.losartistas.com/

Casa del Sol is a bit closer to the main Plaza area, but far enough away that the noise isn't bad. Nice pool, very good breakfast. Clean and convenient to most things. Website: http://www.casadelsolinn.com/index.htm

Casa Flores is one we haven't stayed at personally, but I've heard other people rave about it. Looks like a good location and apparently the food and hosts are excellent. Website: http://www.casafloresajijic.com/index.html

Nueva Posada - stayed here one year over Easter. We were on the top floor facing the lake, with balcony overlooking the restaurant. The room was a little warm, but not bad after the sun went down. Music from La Tasca next door can be bothersome if you prefer quiet, but it didn't last too late. Loved all the bird sounds in the morning, as it's right next to many large trees and the lake. Breakfast is at the restaurant, so you have lots of choices. A bit more of a walk to things since most everything is uphill and a few blocks away. Website: http://hotelnuevaposada.com/

Good luck finding a room you want, and enjoy your stay!

You all are so nice with the suggestions.

Starfish57 doesn't indicate in the original post or the follow-up what is meant by "not too expensive". It's different for everyone, depending on personal budget.

That kind of information helps a lot when asking others to take the time to suggest places.

We need hotel Suggestions in Ajijic Empty Vacation Hotel

Post by Michelle76 Wed Jan 30, 2013 4:21 pm

My family and I will be visiting Ajijic in December and are planning on staying at Plaza Suites. Does anyone have any advice for or against this hotel?

Thanks for your input, every little bit helps. :)

There is a place called Plaza Ajijic Suites or something like that. It's a completely different place than Ajijic Suites, which is on Hidalgo, a little ways OFF the plaza. I can recommend Ajijic Suites on Hidalgo... don't know anything personally about the other. If you're referring to the one on the Ajijic Plaza, I recall when I was researching the two, people cautioned not to confuse one for the other. Hopefully somebody with more experience can comment for you.

Yes, that's the one, Ajijic Plaza Suites on Hidalgo.

Thank you for your response. Can you provide me any further information about the suites? Why do you recommend it?

I guess you're all going to stop giving practical advice now that Dawg is nonplussed and bored.

Me, I don't need a hotel, so I skip over the thread, but if I did, I'd be happy to get information from those who have been there and done that.

So many people have mentioned over time that the Ajijic Suites is a good bet for an inexpensive place to stay that you probably couldn't go too wrong with it. Good luck.

I stayed there for a week a couple years ago. The rooms were very clean and the owner was very helpful (Elaine, from Australia). There is no pool, and no breakfast, but each suite has a kitchenette, which was handy for quick meals and reheating leftovers. It's in a pretty quiet area and the courtyard fountain was nice to listen to at night. At the time I stayed, room prices were inexpensive (and I think tax was included in the price). I stayed in the Oaxaca Suite, which is at the back, upstairs. There's a nice terrace with table and chairs just outside the room. However, Internet signal there was weak so I had to use a booster antenna to get online in my room. The rooms closer to the office, in front, had a better signal.

I did a full review of the hotel on TripAdvisor, including some photos of the room I was in. If interested, you can find it here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g499405-d1079772-r72440279-Ajijic_Suites-Ajijic_Pacific_Coast.html
