OK, now if you're going to get a moto, you will be forgiven for selling that sweet machine.  I've seen it on the street and it really is a nice conversion. You really did a first class job of it.

If I was going to buy another motor toy it would be a dirt bike.

It's the beginning of the end for our friend Bob. So sad.

He'll probably get training wheels on his new moto just like Pedro has.

Well Pedro we'd never confuse you with an expert rider, that's for sure. More like an accident looking for a place to happen.

If Bob is happy with the limitations of riding a cruiser, that's his call.

I have owned dirt bikes, crotch rockets, Japanese cruisers and Harleys so nobody needs to tell me anything. I do find the KLR and BMW cross bikes too high though. I have ridden them before.

Agree Bob, I also find the GS BMWs too tall.  But I sure like the KLR for the light weight and great handling.  The weight and bulk of the GS 1200 definitely doesn't work for me.

Pedro, can't imagine how you'd know anything about group riding since you can't make it past the first bar.

a group of 25. los ocultos,toxic bikers and a coupla independents. south shore. you will probably last as long with the bikers as you did with the musicians-SNORK!
los ocultos are up to 20 members now. no presidente, no road captain. no a-hole trying to tell anybody what to do and we manage just fine.

20 years+ on the beezer no accidents. no helmet in montana or here until 3 years ago when it became apparent that the federal law was going to be enforced.

Like Pedro knows there are only two things you need to know about motos,

A) Motorcycling is like sex, some get it and some don't.

If I was moving to PV I wouldn't be selling my Vocho and doing reno's on my house......jajaja.

Would I ever move to PV? Sure, maybe in 5 to 10 years when I've had enough of this place.

Yeah.  I've seen idiots who dress like this and ride go down.  The road rash alone has killed some.  The helmet is a joke and will offer no real protection.  If you want to see what happens to the fools who wear stuff like Pedro, do a little googling on "road rash."

You don't have to be an expert to understand the need to wear proper protective gear when you ride.  I wonder how many of the bunch in this photo do so?

Forty percent of motorcycle fatalities are caused by head injuries, generally to bandanna wearing fools or people who wear helmets that won't either protect their brains, or will allow the front of their face to be scraped off when they hit the pavement.

The guys I ride with wear full gear, as I do.  Several of them have done easily a million klicks on moto.  With my one eye and age of 70 I can't quite keep up with several of them but I'm never far behind.  They also have more stamina than me.  Part of riding safe is not to push your limits either for speed or for time.  So on a ride where they are going to be out for 8 hours, I may cut short because I know that a tired rider is also an accident in the making.

I'll admit that limitation is pretty annoying. In my younger days, riding for 10-12 hours was more the norm than the exception but not any more, darn it!

In New Mexico, I was in a BMW club that really liked to get out and run.  The motto when it came to gear was "dress for the wreck" and we all followed it religiously.  I still do and I'm sure they all still do too.  We had a guy go off a K1200 on a curve, he was dressed in full Aerostitch gear.  He and the bike tumbled 300 feet.  The bike was totaled, he had a few bruises and a sprained ankle.

What do you think he would have looked like if he had been dressed like you, Pedro?

I've been riding for over 50 years and the only injury I ever got was when I got on a bike without my riding jacket, went down on gravel and scraped my arm pretty good.  I did have a good helmet on and although my head hit hard, it didn't even bruise anything.  That was the first and last time I got on a bike without a riding jacket or the rest of my gear.

Fools go out on motorcycles dressed like the "Sons of Anarchy" on TV.  Real, serious riders know better.

Bob,

The KLR can be easily lowered by as much as 3" or so. The after market has this issue, and many others, well covered. I had a KLR when I was living in Whitehorse and found it to be the perfect bike for the terrain and the uncertain access to fuel. The 23 litre tank will take you about 400 Km.

Good point. I forgot just how much the KLR can be lowered, a bunch!

The dual sport bikes are favored because the long suspension travel and better damping makes them handle the topes much better and faster and also they are much better able to handle those giant potholes one tends to find in the middle of those blind curves on the mountain roads hereabout.

I just beefed up the suspension on my roadster with very good aftermarket shocks and in the process raised it slightly. It handles much better on the rough roads and topes now. But not as good as the dual sports of which the KLR is one of the best.

If the KLR can be lowered by 3" then I would certainly be interested in one. I currently have my eye on a new Indian Scout however I can certainly see the advantages of a dual purpose bike around here. There are hundreds of km's of logging roads up and around Mazamitla that would be worth exploring. Maybe I'll have to hit the Kawi dealer and check it out.

smart group riders slow down when they can't see what's ahead and the lead rider sticks a leg out when he sees a hole. you know zilch about riding around here when you say dual sports are favoured. you are on the wrong board now to spout your usual bullshit,coonboy. oh, and my helmet is a police helmet made in italy and is worn by some cops in canada and no doubt in the us too, go straighten them out-jaja!

BTW......if anyone knows someone with a KLR that would be interested in trading for my Vocho please let them know. I would be willing to throw in some cash too for a newer, low mileage bike.

hey bob,if yer interested in real off road riders talk to jesus the insurance guy. he belongs to a group that regularly ride to pv,etc. all the way on dirt.

While I wouldn't know if they are favored, there are thousands of dual purpose bikes on the highways in Mexico. Far more than I ever saw in Canada. I see them everywhere on my travels around central Mexico. I usually only see the cruisers on Sundays.........jaja.
