Help buying used car

Hi folks

I need some help I am buying a Jalisco plated
Nissan Micra from a gringa and I need to know
the procedures and where to go to do the DMV
thing and pay the tax thing.

1.) I know I have to pay tax how to?

2.) Do you keep the plates or get new ones?

3.) What do you need to get insurance?

4.) Anything else I should know?

You transfer title and pay the tax at the Recaudadora (spelling could be off) in Chapala. If you've ever paid a traffic ticket, it's the same office. Used to be on Juarez, but they moved to.....can't remember the name of the street. Maybe Degollado. When I bought mine I went to that office, explained I was buying a car and asked what I needed to bring back. They gave me a slip of paper with a list of what paperwork to return with. The single most important thing is the seller HAS to provide the ORIGINAL Factura for the vehicle. There is no subsititute. They sign on the back saying they're transfering title to you.

Spencer's office will help you. You need to ensure that all previous year's taxes were paid and that there are you outstanding unpaid tickets before complete the transaction.

1 - Go to Calle Degollado in Chapala it is almost all the way to the end of the street to Cristinia Park. Take your Passport & FM and a copy of the front pages. You will need the paperwork from the car and it is easier if the other person is with you. I forget if you need your drivers license, I don't think so.

2 - You keep the plate they stay with the car.

3- Call around and ask insurance companies what they charge for this vehicle and what they need to insure it. Easy, some will come to your home. You can insure it before you buy it, you do need the Vin # and the extras about the vehicle.

4- I would take the owner with you incase there are any back taxes that they need to pay. You have to have all your paperwork checked at the office to the right of the main room when you walk in, if you need additional copies they have a copy machine there. I have never found that there is any English spoken here.

Have the seller accompany you to the office and pay nothing to that seller until the title is in your name.

At least have Spencer run the Vin# to be sure the car is legal. Just because the seller seems nice doesn't mean she didn't buy a hot car.

We use Parker Insurance and have been pleased.

so we go on our own.

Spencer is out of town now, try in a couple of days, or send him a message. Also, I bought my car, Mexican plated from Americans and Mark Turford went with me. We did not need the first owners with us at the time of changing titles.

I also bought my Mexican plated van through Mark. He accompanied me to the registration office and ensured everything was good. No problems at all.

Does anyone have Mark's contact info?
