Shooting in San Juan Cosala

At approx. 4.00pm this afternoon a fatal shooting occured in San Juan Cosala.
A police truck was in hot pursuit of a grey car heading towards Jocotepec.
Five minutes later the police came a t high speed in the opposite direction.
In the center of the town right on the carreta the car pulles over. Shots were fired
immediately.  One officer down.  From what I could see the occupants in the car
were shot immediately, and from what I heard afterwards- mortally. Before I left the scene (I was approx 150 meters from the scene)I was told the officer was not fatally shot.  He was taken away by ambulance.
Road now closed off.  Many police on the scene.

That's not nice news...came home from Guadalajara about a half hour ago and saw a grey pick up full of men in the back heading over the hill out of town...one had a bullet proof vest on and and at least one had a rifle :-S Since I was driving I didn't stare too long and was hoping that's how they haul the criminals from the Chapala jail to Guadalajara.

JOCOTEPEC, JALISCO (17/JUN/2013).- Two men died in a shootout with officers of the Jocotepec Department of Public Safety this afternoon.

The events took place on the highway that leads from the municipal seat to the borough of San Juan Cosala, where it crosses Del Cardenal Street. There two gunmen died in a gray Nissan car.
A policeman was also wounded in the shootout and his condition was reported as serious.

Authorities reported that the deceased were traveling with other armed men who managed to escape.

Members of the State Attorney General's Office came to the scene to begin investigations into the case.

The carraterra in SJC was closed most of the evening with traffic routed through town. Don't know if it's open yet. Difficult as the main street is blocked with rides and stalls for the fiesta. Traffic has been routed to LA Paz, the street closest to the lake.

The town cryer, who sells the local paper is out this morning in central Ajijic, this must be what he's shouting about. The guy who saw the grey pick up on the Joco by-pass may have witnessed the get away car leaving! Scary stuff...

The two guys who were killed didn't get away.

About 8 AM 7 police cars and 2 ambulances rushed toward SJC. About an hour later 1 ambulance, no siren, with 3 police cars following were headed east. That's a first hand observation.

Informador reported they got away in a white Camero and a red Ford Lobo...what I saw was a newer grey pick up, loaded with men, one man standing with a bullet proof vest and a rifle.  Whether the other men had rifles, I'm not sure.  They were heading out towards Ixlauhuacan from Chapala.  BUT there were other cars around them, so if it was a problem, the other cars following them could call police.   Private security can carry rifles...it just wasn't something we normally see.    

Says that they killed two gunman.

Was it a Jocotepec policia or a Chapala policia?

I just drove from San Juan Cosala to Ajijic at 3pm today and was passed by and ambulance going west, full siren and then a police truck also with siren going. Must be something going on with this mornings report and activity this afternoon.  My cleaning lady said she heard there was a shoot out in El Limon today. Don't have details on that.

Dead people don't escape. Or do they?
