My car is still in warranty but I don't want to go to Guadalajara for routine maintenance e.g. oil/filter change. Who do you trust in the Lakeside area to do it properly?

Most manufacturer warranties require that required maintenance be carried out by an authorized dealer. Check your warranty book.

Yes, in many cases you can even do your own oil changes as long as you keep the receipts. I have had stuff done at Car City and have been happy with the work and the price. If it is just an oil change there are several places around for that.

In the first year or so after Car City opened they got a lot of bad reviews. I have not heard any for a while though.

I had airconditioning work done there. They rebuilt the compressor and recharged both systems for under 300 bucks. I usually get all my other stuff done by Ron Young in Chapala. He doesnt do AC work though.

I wait until Costco has a 5 gallon bottle of synthetic oil on sale for around 450 pesos, then buy a nice Bosch oil filter, the mechanic next to the old courthouse changes it and cleans the air filter for 60 pesos. $600 pesos for a synthetic oil change.
