Re: Number four
In terms of price definately, especially drink prices, cocktails and wine are massively overpriced. Food is high, but very good. Setting is nice but I don't pay for ambiance, only for food and service.

Re: Number four
Well, while we only live half the year in Ajijic and the other half in Chiapas and have not been back in Ajijic for six months, the two times we have eaten at #4 which has been a while, the food was excellent and we will go back once again when we return in May. The best steak I have had at lakeside I had there but that had to have been at least a year ago. I think this is an outstanding place in a town with many mediocre restautants.
We have noted that the restaurant scene seems to be picking up since we left in January. We look forward to trying several new places we have read about on various forums when we return - some fairly fancy like #4 but also some other more informal places. I am pleased #4 is still around.

Well, you need to hurry back, as you won't want to miss this one. Number four is now advetising that they have imported Flamenco dancers from Spain and are offering a prixe fixe ( did I do that right) dinner for a mere 1,000 pesos per person. I will be the guy sitting on the sidewalk selling penicils. Zoey

I'd guess that event if where you'll see the "A-Listers", should you wish to know who's who around town.
It's prixfix, Zoey. And we do mean fixed.

For $1K pesos count me out. BTW, it's "Prix Fixe." Obviously they're trying to get more out of the summer residents now that the snow bird have flown (thank god).

Re: Number four
So when you say the prices for the meals and cocktails are high, what does a typical dinner run?
For a couple cocktails, dinner and desert are we talking what price range?
I find as someone who is just investigating the area everyone has different levels of what is high-priced and what isn't, but without some amount, it is difficult to tell.
Obviously when you talk about flamenco dancers and dinner at 100USD a pop, that's a trifle on the high side, but what would a regular steak dinner cost?

Re: Number four
Here's the thing; A Margharita is $65P, normal is $30-35. There limited wine list has nothing on it you can buy at Lakeside (so you can't check the price) except Veuve Cliquot Champagne for $2500P which you can buy at PAZ for about $680P. Pricing cheap wine at more than 2 times cost is OK, expensive wine NO. My conclusion is that everything there is over priced by 50-300%. As I recall main courses are $140-380P. These indicators make me uncomfortable.

Thanks David, that's good information. Some people may not mind paying those prices, especially if they are recently from NOB or just visiting. To many from NOB those prices are very attractive, but to many who live here and have gotten used to good quality food at even lower prices their prices may seem outrageous. Now when a newbie or visitor reads these posts he will have a relative value to consider.
Re: Number four
Just for comparison....although I realize there's a big difference in "ambiance", we just had dinner at the Sunrise Cafe. Shrimp in butter and garlic or deep fried with veggies and potatoes; generous plate.....69 pesos. A number of other good choices for the same price. Clean place; nice people. ...and that's not the only place in town where good food is served at a reasonable price.
I'm not a cheapskate and don't mind paying for an upscale dinner, but at Roberto's, for instance, you can get pretty fancy at under $150 pesos, including appetizers, soup or salad and a main course. This, along with decently priced drinks.
#4 has its place and there are people who love going there. Just trying to put things in perspective re values.

Totally agree. We've been to Roberto's and the service and food were excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Example - 4 glasses of wine, shrimp entre, almond crusted chicken entre, desert, and mexican coffee for under 500 pesos. It was very nice and I would highly recommend. Tango was very similar, great food very reasonable prices. We'll go to number 4 also. Can't beat the food lakeside, one could have a weight problem if not careful.

I have not heard a word from them. No surprise. They are not getting their list from the LCS directory. I am thinking that somebody at Lloyd or another bank is selling names of folks with lots of money. Consider yourself honored, and stop being annoyed. Just push the delete button. I would love to have a spam from number 4. How much do you think I should charge for pencils? Zoey

juanrey, did you happen to hit Hacienda Ajijic steakhouse on your visit? The most amazing service and the best steaks. A tad pricey, but I can swing it on occasion. Zoey
