Cohetes in the Distance

Six fifty this morning and I'm hearing them in the distance again. Is that you, Ajijic??? If so, what's the occasion? Is today a holiday?

Nope not us. I heard them and thought it was you....jaja.

I believe Sunday is the start of our San Andreas fiesta.

Now, if the weather gods could coordinate with the festivals and cool the beach down a bit more at the same time..........it would be perfect!

Where I once lived in Mexico in a pueblo of 27,000 people, I asked a local why the cohetes were always going off. He said, "Oh, it is just someones birthday." I got to thinking, that would mean that on any one day there would be 74 people having a birthday. No wonder they are constantly banging away.

Nobody has coordinates?  Must be cohetes on wheels. (coming to your neighborhood, soon)

You must have learned your Spanish in another country as cuete in Mexico is a cut of beef roast, usually but not necessarily from the round.
Or maybe they had a big comida of carne asada.  
I have seen cuete used for cohete, and wondered where it came from.

Cuete is also used ad....anda bien cuete....he's real drunk

My experts (kids in school), say cuetes (kind of slang for pirotecnicos) are generally all fireworks, while cohetes are the rockets that wake up the light sleepers and the sinners to go to Misa.
