'TIS THE SEASON....ALLERGIES
Spring has sprung; All the pretty trees are in full bloom and so are the allergies to everything in sight!
For years, I made sure to get my daily spoonful of local honey and that actually worked. Not this year, oh sniff, snort, gurgle.
So, unless I'm the only one having the miseries of spring allergies, what's your favorite remedy? My doc is recommending squirting a mix of sea salt, water and a pinch of baking soda up my nose, along with an antihistamine. "Sort of" helps.
Any other ideas?

Loratadina, or Alegra, or Zyrtec. Little to no side effects or interactions.
If all that fails, go with Bob for an infusion of Tequila! You might still not be able to breathe but you won't care.

My runny nose has reached the stage where Kleenex is a waste of money and I'm sitting with a roll of toilet paper and a plaster debris baggie for it.
Bob's suggestion makes a bizarre but true point, but the hangover factor kicks in and makes me hesitate!

Thanks. I'll try that. Is a prescription required or is it OTC?

Reactine is also non-drowsy and works for me. I always bring a lot own, so I don't know if it is sold here.

I use the spray sea salt del Mar stuff and it helps me. Unfortunately my allergies go strait to asthma so I'm wheezing like a steam engine.

I had a real bad allergic reaction (runny nose) on Monday and Tuesday, but it pretty much cleared up by Wednesday. Never had a problem when just visiting here at all different times of year. Was there something special in the air early in the week?

Re: 'TIS THE SEASON....ALLERGIES
you do not need a prescription for Xuzal , an allergist prescribed it to me several years ago and it works for me but then I do not have super allergies like some people seem to have.
allergies can pop up and just because you are not allergic today does not mean you will not be tomorrow..

The jackarandas are blooming. Raw honey and antihistamines don't seem to help much. I had to switch from tissue paper to bath towels to keep up with the flow.

Re: 'TIS THE SEASON....ALLERGIES
There is a powerful cortisone nasal spray called Nasonex in the North. In Mexico it is sold as Flixotide or Fluticason. I accidently bought the one used as a inhaler - but I think it actually works better than the nasal spray version. Make sure you shake it very well before using. It shrinks the nasal lining, and after you use it several months, the nasal cavities will stay open permanently.

I often wonder 'what else' drugs like that are shrinking in addition to the nasal lining.....
We've had a lot of wind NOB (west) and it is very dry and my allergies have kicked up. Usually this doesn't happen until May.
