San Antonio Celebrations Empty San Antonio Celebrations

Post by Mrs. Rupert Thu Dec 12, 2019 12:15 pm

Does anyone know when the end of San Antonio's celebrations will be? It has seemed like a really long time this year. My dogs and I are ready for a 'time out'. TIA

The cohetes are for a variety of celebrations at this time of year. Usually hear them almost daily from Nov. 21 until New Years. Then again at Easter. Been pretty quiet otherwise and not nearly as many as previous years.

An Ajijic local told me that today will be the last day of the celebrations, and that there will be no more cohetes until Christmas & New Years.

I sure hope he wasn't kidding me Very Happy

They also get blown off for weddings and even some Quienciaras. They really haven't been that bad this year and I live very close to the church and plaza in Ajijic.

San Antonio, not Ajijic. My concern is for my dogs, not humans.

Yes SA. I'm having the same problem with my dog in SA too. He's been living under the bed for a week or more - and he's medicated.

Today is the top when it comes to cohetes it is the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe , after this it will be a whole lot quieter. There will be some cohetes at Christmas.. for Carnaval in February and after that it should be more or less quiet until Easter...
After Christmas there is  the 3 kings, , Candelaria and Carnaval but it is a whole lot quieter than right now.. We live a couple of blocks from the church of the Guadalupe  and it has been pretty bad this week.

Intil today and yesterday it seems that it has been quieter than other years but the last 2 days have been bad.

Get your dog Calmantes. They will make them relax and are perfectly safe. Several pet stores have them.

I tried everything for my dogs. Finally I moved to C. Haciendas and although we still hear them, they are way off in the distance. Dogs happy, mama happy.

I wondered if you could hear them up there. They are infrequent but loud tonight, dog is under the bed.

I have Calmavet but its a sedative and we're using Anxitane now which is just an amino acid. Results are the same.

The cohetes are louder today than usual. The dogs are upset today but not usually since we moved.

You asked when SAT celebration would be over.  The others, Guadalupe. Christmas. New Year, Pascua, Santa Cruz, and on and on, are nationwide celebrations.
You didn´t even mention cohetes in your opening post.

It seems the tubas don't play in the same key as the band. And then it's mostly umpa umpa with no trills or anything interesting. Boring in my book.

There is a banda band playing right now and I can assure you they have lots of tubas and there is nothing boring about that music.. not to my taste but boring it is not.. Agreed not in key with the band, actually I am not sure they are playing the same thing but no one seems to care. The more racket they make and the more fans they get..

Banda is worse than rap........and the tuba sucks whether in tune or not. Several Mexicans have told me it is the music of the poor and uneducated.

That's right, Mrs. Rupert. You asked when it would be over, and Slainte told you exactly that.

My guess about how banda started: they were listening to a cassette tape of music, and the battery was wearing down. They thought that's how it's supposed to be, and ever since, banda has been wobbly and off-key. Not unlike the paleta guys: they first heard that ice-cream song on a bad cassette, and now go out of their way to duplicate that horror-story sound.
