They do it in the states too. I've been to crashes with bloody interiors, some with airbags deployed, and no one on scene.

Not nearly as frequently as here and there they actually look for them and arrest them.Trailrunner wrote:They do it in the states too. I've been to crashes with bloody interiors, some with airbags deployed, and no one on scene.

Seems like they'd have to run all the way over the border. Can they ever go back to their families? It's not like nobody knows who was driving!!

Arresting dangerous drivers in Mexico? I can't imagine it happening! The transitos are too busy shaking down little old gringas for speeding in parking lots.
I drive back & forth from San Juan area to Ajijic & Chapala, and I could write a many-chaptered book on the incredible feats of daring and stupidity I have witnessed, so much so that I'm sure it would sound unbelievable. So, I keep a camera with me, and have caught many amazing acts in the act. One photo shows the SUV ahead of me deeking into oncoming traffic lane at the red light carretera & Colon, with a cop standing watching as if this couldn't have bored him more. Of course, he did NADA. A second photo shows a bus driver at the restaurants west of San Juan, booting it through oncoming lane in a blind curve, no concern for his passengers or out of vision drivers. This stuff is commonplace, so really, it is a wonder there aren't a lot more fatalities than there are. But arrests? HA! Sadly, the income from all the ticket charges could single handedly float Mexico out of recession!

Incredibly, there was a passenger in that car as well, a woman who was also unharmed.

Re: Another bad crash. . .
Oh my goodness. From the pics, I'm hoping the driver of the car survived (airbags, et al), rear seated passengers, not so much. When was the last time anyone saw a roadside commercial vehicle check in Mexico, ya know where the authorities have a mobile testing station and pull them all over, crawl underneath, and check them out. NEVER, right. A RIG in Mexico, Whatever it's makeup is a death threat. Don't follow too close, and when safe to pass - do so. It looked like a bright new shiny cement truck, but, guess what, it was driven by an idiot. He/she should have been approaching that intersection at 10 mph, anything over 20 was disaster, I bet he was doing at least 30 and hoping to pick up a gear and power on his/her way. Sad.

Luckily it is a newer Toyota. Newer cars are designed
with crushing and rollover blows in mind. Take a 20
year old car and drop it on the roof and the roof will
flatten down to the door on a hit like that.

The first link on the first page doesn't work, so I replaced it (couldn't edit the OP).
You'll find the link at the top of this page works. I just tried it.

We live on the Libramiento and they barrel by here like Indianapolis Speedway using their jake brakes. Bring on the topes. I think it's looooong past due.

Re: Another bad crash. . .
link to the story on this crash (in Spanish) :
http://www.paginaquesiselee.com.mx/index.php/contenido/noticias/11971-cae-pesado-camion
To sum it up;
The driver of the truck claimed that his brakes failed, Vialidad doesn't buy it and say's the accident was caused by excessive speed and lack of precaution. He was going too fast, braked too late and the weight of his load caused him to turn over when he tried to make the turn.
The driver of the truck and the driver of the automobile reached a satisfactory agreement since the vehicles were covered by insurance. The driver of the car that was smashed as it sat at the intersection waiting for the light, Sergio Macias Aldana, desisted (of the damages caused to his car).
....As far as I can tell from reading the article, this means that the driver of the truck will face no charges...?
...There is absolutely no mention of the FACT that the truck driver ran off, with no way of knowing if the victims inside the car were dead or dying or what...
The article gives brief details of the other two accidents involving trucks at this intersection in the last month and a half.
There is another article in this same edition that points out how many accidents have happened at this intersection and also at the other end of the libramiento (la tijera) where so many cars have smashed into the puente over the last decade or so..,the Secretaria de Vialidad y Transporte del Estado came and scoped out the situation and is looking for a solution to the problemo...he mentioned the need for some new signage and lighting under the puente at la Tijera and, going toward the mall, speed reducers like topes or vibradores at El dorado or Cielo Vista to make drivers reduce their speed before reaching the curve that decends down to Walmart.
