Guadalajara gas shortage

Stations running out, buy it while you can do not leave Chapala if you dont have gas or you may find yourself stranded. News not being forthcoming with story but people have been driving around looking for gas in Guadalajara.

Thanks for the warning. I know one car that needs to be filled up just in case.

Why is there a "gas shortage" ?

Apparently due to thefts and damage to the Pemex pipeline in the area of Tala.

They are stealing so much gasoline that it is causing a national shortage? And if so, wouldn't they simply be selling the stolen gasoline back to the stations at a reduced cost?

It's not national, only this area, for the reasons MC stated.  Pemex stations would be controlled by having to purchase gasoline through normal channels, verifiable amount in as compared to verifiable amount sold. The bootleggers probably have their own distribution system outside of the legitimate Pemex stations with heavy users of gasoline or smaller bootlegger distributors, but I doubt very little winds up in Pemex gasolineras.

Well if they are selling it on the side then the buyers won't be using Pemex fuel either. The only answer that would make sense is if they were stealing it from around here and taking it far away to sell. Even at that it is hard to believe they could be stealing that much.

I would just as soon believe that Pemex is creating a false shortage so they can boost the price just like the US in the 70's.

When a pipeline gets damaged and has a leak, it get gets turned off so it can be fixed.

Crude is under $85 a barrel.

Then they had better create a shortage in more than just GDL in order to boost prices nationwide as Pemex prices are the same nationwide.
Just filled up at the Pemex on the Libramiento...no shortage, no lines, no problem.

The pipeline was damaged by someone(bodies) making attempted or successful thefts. There are plenty of people/businesses willing to buy "discounted gasoline" right here in the state of Jalisco that would not require the hauling of it to Tijuana or the Yucatan.

I bought gas in Guadalajara today without any problem.
