New Pizza place open - The Junky Monkey

Cristian, son of Giovanni of Giovanni's restaurant near Tabarka and his new wife Cassie opened their pizza and wings restaurant today. It is on the north side of the Carretera just past the Casa de Waffle and car wash, where the greek place was a few years ago and adjacent to the pool supply place.

They have hand made pizzas, wings, beer, wine and soda's for now. A great variety of toppings and the pizza I had was the best I have tasted in Mexico. Thin crispy crust, not too much sauce and enough toppings to make the slice heavy and tasty. Cristian cooks the pizzas in an outdoor clay or brick oven. I didn't get too close to it as it was hot out already LOL.

They will be open daily except Wed from 1PM - 9 PM and possibly later on weekends if there is business late in the evenings.

Is that the correct name or is it Funky Monkey. Are there signs out alerting new people to it's location?

Whatever it's name, praise be and pass the salsa, hot sauce, grey poupon, whatever.

There is a big sign and balloons but it is easy to pass it by. If you are driving from the west you would turn at the end of the first new set of topes, or what is left of them. They had a sandwich board sign out today with balloons on it.

Small pizzas ranged from 70 - 90 pesos and large from 90-125, beer was 18-22 pesos.

Thank you. The only reason I asked about the name was that some bozo on TOB said it was Funky Monkey.

I went to have lunch there today but it was closed. It is called the Junky Munky and their tag line on the sign is "Just One Toke Over The Line".........this is intriguing and will require another visit.

What time did you go by Bob? I went past the place a few times this afternoon and they were open.
I think the "One toke over the line" tag is after the song. Cassie is Bryan James sister and her step dad is Flip from the Tall Boys band. Lots of old Rock posters on the walls.

We went back there for lunch today. Cristian and Cassie are perfect hosts. We had pizza and chicken wings. Both were very good and we will be back for more. The prices were excellent.

Ate there today and will be back. Had mild wings, the sauce is excellent. Can't wait to try the pizza.

First time at the Junky Monkey tonight.

Sat and had a cerveza with Fernando from Lake Taco while my order was being cooked.

Saw Hound Dawg on the way out and had a good chat with him.

Headed home with some good smelling food.

Had the Junky Monkey pizza without banana and an order of wings. The kids had a Pepperoni pizza.

All was great. Great food, great people. Will definitely be back.

I am meeting at this place Saterday the 24th at 2 until 4 for a going away party for the current renters (of the house I'm renting in Ajijic) and their friends.

Then only a couple more weeks until I get to move in.

BTW, they deliver, just not to the R.C., however will drop off at Mailboxes etc. I'm dying to try those teriyaki chicken wings.

Lovely hint of garlic in the sauce...the whole thing was lip smackin' good and will become a regular with us.
Outside patio is smoke friendly and dog friendly. I predict another pizza oven in their immediate future.
