There is a private home between Punto Verde and the Maskaras Clinic, which then continues on to other business establishments, going west.
Punto Verde features the bread/bakery products of Bernardo and Noel from Tlachichilco who you may know from the Tuesday market in La Huerta event center.
Great food and great people...and as Pedro says...parking is not a problem.

Not to nit-pick, okay, I will nit pick just a bit. Do you understand how confusing these directions are to a newcomer? First of all, no one has told me what town Café Verde is in - Chapala? Ajijic?

If you have never been to one of the clinics or Upscale Resale, then you still haven't a clue what everyone is talking about. For instance, when Yves moved they advertised as next to Dental Express - which is not exactly a prominent landmark for people living in San Antonio with good teeth.

That is why we give directions on Lake Chapala Restaurant Guide from the Walmart so that anyone, new or old, can find the place we have reviewed. So, tell me which town Café Verde is in, and where it is located in relation to some major landmark - El Barco, Tiangus, the yellow bank building, or if in Chapala, where is it in relation to the malecon, Sorianas, etc. Thanks. how about riberas del pilar on the lake side, about 100 + feet east of maskaras clinic which is about 30 feet east of mom's deli. unless you are prepared to write a whole book telling someone that it is east of walmart.

Well, no wonder we could not find Café Verde! Riberas del Pilar, quite close to where we live. We will have to try it. I recommend La Lena to you. It is in Chapala and is quite good, especially the shrimp empanadas. I can tell you how to get there from Walmart in less than 20 words.

There are two kinds of people here who offer directions. There are those who are honestly trying to help and are just direction-challenged (these are usually members of my own sex and I sympathize with them) and those who practice a kind of gatekeeper's language, who pretend to give all kinds of information while withholding the most important details. Then, when they finally do give you the correct information - in which town something is located - they include an insult so you know that THEY are part of the crowd-that-knows-everything and YOU are not. They are also rude to women - what is up with that?

TTT:

We have discussed this before but the only viable option I see is when posters can provide a front view photo that provides readers with some idea of location. While I believe I possess a highly developed sense of direction, I cannot give directions since I drive by visual landmarks that I don't know or recognize until I actually see them.

"...something they don't do perhaps?" I bet, perhaps, he does. Anyway, we were engaged in a bit of humorous repartee. I realize that not everyone is able to understand the difference.

Nevertheless, I intend to visit Café Verde now that I know where it is, and you are right Cheenagringo, I remember the discussion about having a picture with a front view of the restaurant so that people can recognize it from the street and have incorporated that into our reviews. That was very good advice.

bull, knowing oatsie as a gentleman , scholar and a generous person he would not deserve what you said to him in the least, even in jest. i very well understand the difference. those of us that live and stay in chapala proper do not use wallyworld as a reference point to get around by the way.

So, what is the story on La Tasca? We went by today for lunch and the place is closed down, looks like it might be undergoing renovation. No signs on the gates, or indication that it will be opening again. Do you all know anything? Also, Ole! Ola! had a cooking school going when we walked by. If I had known, I would have signed up. The food smelled amazing, but we were too late to join in. Anyone have any experience with this tapas place?

We ended up at Merendero Lake, which we have walked by again and again and never stopped at, but I would have to submit this place as having the best burgers lakeside, according to my companion, who would never lie about food. I had a great salad and we split an excellent crepe for dessert. This is a nice little lunch place. Our next review.

In the 15 years I have lived here La Tasca has opened and closed too many times to count.

Here's another:  Bruno's very worthy lunches:  today we had a prime rib French dip for 75 pesos loaded with the a pile of the real deal on a garlic cheese bread bun with genuine sauce from the prime rib.  Wow.  Before the sandwich arrived, one of their delicious salads with home made dressing.

Highly recommend that one, and also the daily special 55 pesos ground sirloin with carmelized onions and choice of sides.  Vicky makes her dishes right with no strange additive riddled oils or artificial flavorings in the food.  Just good stuff.

Thanks for the tips, Gringal! Will try both. Today we were in Chapala and tried El Quetzal. It was very good. I had the best shrimp and cheese empanadas - the appetizer portion so huge that it is all I had for lunch. Wine was 2 x 1. Beautiful setting too. Really like this place!

Has anyone tried Maquina 245? We often walk past this place and never see anyone there, but it looks interesting and I finally saw an ad with the hours posted in El Ojo Del Lago.

Ah, the problem with public forums is that they are finally hijacked by fools with nothing better to do than spend their days at the computer typing the verbal equivalent of farts and giggling at their cleverness. Eh?

Boy you got it...all giggles and farts...good for digestion.
On this forum we started out as fools, but ever so often..."they...the others" try to hijack the forum and instill their form of "ism".
Giggling and farting (verbally), absolutely denotes cleverness.   Twisted Evil
