Any problems with Airport Taxis carrying returning passengers to Chapala?

Is there some kind of colourant that could be put in the gas that goes in the pipelines that would easily distinguish stolen gas from legal gas?
Is there something additional that would remove that colour that could be added to the gas when it is delivered to gas stations legally? Or a special filtered nozzle on the legal trucks?

Yes, there were plenty of taxis at the airport yesterday.

TR, they dye gas in Canada to sell to farmers who don't have to pay all the road taxes. It is purple in color and referred to as "Marked gas". No they cannot remove the dye.

Fascinating subject. Yes, they can remove the dye... scroll down to "Fuel Laundering".

Back to the drawing board to rethink this. Maybe the dye should be added once it gets into the tankers to be delivered locally. And a little glass bubble on the pumps to show that it's the right colour for the kind of gas being bought.
I always did wonder if the higher priced Premium was really premium.

I wish they had that technology when I was a kid. We used to nick gas from the local farms and were always worried about getting caught for using the marked gas on the public roads. The fines were pretty hefty. In those days (late 70's) all the cars were primarily carbureted so all the cop had to do was remove your air cleaner and see all the dye. With everything being fuel injected now I don't know how they would check. Maybe dip the tank?

When I was a kid riding with my friends on our tiny 60cc Yamaha two stroke motos, we would make the rounds at night to all the gas stations. Lift up the gas hoses and siphon out about 1/2 liter or so of gas from each hose until we had what we needed. Back then gas was about .25/gallon US.

My question too. Are the airport taxis bringing passengers to Lake Chapala area?

Want to see someone really pissed-off?

Try seeing the guy/gal who waited 2-3 hours in a gas line and when it came their turn, the guy from the station comes up and tell him/her they are out of gas. Sorry.

Bet the stations are keeping reserves for their use as well as friends/family and maybe anyone who will pony-up a higher price.

"Jose sent me."

I am surprised that no one is making runs to Colima with a tidy tank and bringing back fuel to sell at twice the price (or more). I would pay 40 per liter to avoid a line up.

In theory, sounds good, but how would it be done as a practical matter? And how much can you net? Ready for long lines at your house? And if/when the government finds out - - - - - -

Probably they are. We're not in the loop. Read EdeL's link from Borderland Beat in the octagon.

Well you can get a 1000 liter tidy tank in the back of a 1 ton diesel dually. So if you sell if for twice the price you can gross $10,000 pesos per trip. It will take you 4 hours there and back, and about $1000 pesos in diesel for your truck. What's the government going to say?? Nada. They can't supply.

IMO, government will say you are engaging in a business w/o a license.

Is the risk worth the pesos?

How about distribution?

Gasoline is a hazardous material and probably illegal to transport without proper licenses and vehicles even in Mexico. Imagine if that truck crashed into other vehicles.

If they did get caught or stopped it might not be worth it. It's probably being done in smaller quantities closer to the source.

The set government txi from GDL to Chapala is $400, but the guy at the Kiosk says $420, and of course will pocket the $20. I either just come up and say "Chapala, $400" or when he says $420, I smile and say $400 and he takes it. If I get pushed, and I haven't, I'll give it and say I want a receipt.

FWIW
