CENTIPEDES GIVE A NASTY BITE!
About ten days ago, in the early morning, I was l lying in bed under a sheet and felt something tickle my stomach - between the pubic region and the umbilicus. I think I may have brushed it away with my hand. Three-quarters asleep, I don't know. Within seconds I woke up to a searing pain. I have never been stung by a scorpion but that is what I assumed it was. I jumped out of bed and saw a centipede scurrying across the floor. I killed it with a shoe then applied some teatree oil to the area. I was not wearing my glasses and did not notice anything on my belly, but applied teatree oil where it hurt. The centipede was small - maybe an inch or inch and a half in length, white, skinny and, of course, creepy looking. Today I went to the hospital. Had I listened to Colet I would have gone sooner but I am a typical man. "Oh, it's fine. Don't worry about it." It was NOT fine. It hurt like hell and the infection grew daily. The doctor made an incision in my gut and expressed more venom (I assume) then I thought possible. He placed me on two antibiotics and an antinflammatory. For Ten Days. I have since sprayed our apartment to death.

Hace unos diez días, temprano en la mañana, estaba acostado en la cama debajo de una sábana y sentí algo que me hacía cosquillas en el estómago, entre la región púbica y el ombligo. Creo que me lo he quitado con la mano. Tres cuartos dormidos, no lo sé. En segundos me desperté con un dolor abrasador. Nunca me ha picado un escorpión, pero eso es lo que asumí que era. Salté de la cama y vi un ciempiés corriendo por el suelo. Lo maté con un zapato y luego apliqué un poco de aceite de teatree al área. No llevaba mis anteojos y no noté nada en mi vientre, pero apliqué aceite de teatree donde me dolía. El ciempiés era pequeño, tal vez de una pulgada o una pulgada y media de largo, blanco, delgado y, por supuesto, de aspecto espeluznante. Hoy fui al hospital. Si hubiera escuchado a Colet, me hubiera ido antes, pero soy un hombre típico. "Oh, está bien. No te preocupes por eso". NO estaba bien. Dolía como el infierno y la infección crecía a diario. El médico hizo una incisión en mi intestino y expresó más veneno (supongo) de lo que creía posible. Me colocó dos antibióticos y un antiinflamatorio. Por diez días. Wow! Thanks for the heads up about how serious their bite can be! I hope you're feeling better Bill, and enjoying your life at the beach!

Centipedes have always ranked right up there with scorpions for discomfort after their sting or bite.

Millipedes, however are harmless to humans. You know the difference, right?

You'd think so, but...

I had to look that one up. It was so different than the Centipedes described by a doctor, who served part time in the hills and small settlement of Jalisco. He said it was the most painful jungle injury because there is no anti-venom, only Morphine injector pens limited to use by the military.
You probably had a house centipede. Still nasty. Thank you also for providing an excellent Spanish translation, always good to learn some new words (for me anyway).
