Hello all.

I am currently in my 2nd week visit to Lakeside. Does anyone have any information on how to get a tour of the different neighborhoods in Chapala?

Thanks,

Miramontes Transport:  A family business of drivers.  I've used them for trips to Guadalajara and would recommend them for safety and well maintained vehicles. English speaking.  Francisco Sr. will make an appointment.
call office: (376)766-1142  There will be charges for driving you around, of course.
Other option: go to a Realtors office and if they think you're interested in buying a house,  they'll take you around for free.

And if you are not interested, isn't that a little devious?  You would have to make them "think" that.
BTW.....I didn't give you a "thumbs down"....probably some realtor.  Very Happy

I was going to add "let your conscience be your guide", but figured that it would be, anyway.  The poster didn't say if he was actually interested in buying or renting, did he?

There's a poster on here of the "rightie" variety who gives me "thumbs down" on just about anything. As it happens, I don't shivaget, since that's just lame.

I will not be renting until next spring. I want to look at neighborhoods within walking distance (20-25 min) to Centro.

Gringal, I called the number and a woman that only speaks Spanish answered. I did not know what to say to her.

Hi CCW, My husband and I are arriving in Chapala in just about 2 months and will want the same thing. I will follow this discussion here (and did you ask this on Facebook also?) and hope to learn from your adventure.

Esga, I called Miramontes Transport and they were booked solid. I called last minute so I fully understand. They told me to book a tour as far out as possible.

Rent a car for a day & drive yourself around, if walking is too hard. $40/day seems to be the price. Park in spots you like, get out & look around. Try not to go the WRONG WAY on the MANY one way streets. Apparently americans are flocking into Chapala, changing the vibe & probably rental $ by next year..

Yes, the traffic in Chapala gets worse by the day. I advise all newcomers to stick to Ajijic. Please.

Agree, please.

I don't think most of the newcomers really want to live in Chapala it's just that Ajijic is full and they can't find a place to live there.

Chapala is less expensive, has a nicer malecon and better streets. It is perfect for all the new arrivals.

They won't like Chapala or Joco, it's too Mexican. They'll be out of the loop. They won't be included in all the happenin' haps. They won't be in the perceived IN crowd.

And they certainly won't like driving back to Joco at 10 or 11 at night after dinner and drinks in Ajijic!!

"In" crowd.......jajajaja. They need to retire in Monte Carlo for that. Chapala is too Mexican??? What does that even mean?

More Mexican than expat and more Spanish than English.

When I used to read the FB newbie pages, admitedly that was months ago now, they never talked about moving to Mexico. It was ALL about Ajijic. Almost as if Ajijic isn't even in Mexico.

Ajijic has far more Mexican's than expats albeit more expats than Chapala. The only thing less Mexican might be the number of multicultural restaurant's and gift stores but really those also cater to the Tapatio's that visit on the weekends. If you haven't been to Ajijic on a Sunday in a while come and take a stroll down Colon at about 2:00pm. Fully packed and hardly a gringo in site......

Ajijic definitely has more of a "tourist" or "vacation" flavor.

That's the way I see it too. Just check out the clientele at Ajijic Tango, as they probably handle the largest volume of traffic of any restaurant in Ajijic.
Even though SAT doesn't have many boutiques, galleries, gift stores, etc., it sure has become a magnet for shoppers of certain needs.  Even foreigners who live in Ajijic will make that long trip over to shop there/here. (Little GDL for those can't make it over the mountains)   Very Happy
Panino's is a different story....Mexicans just haven't fully embraced "hot beef sandwiches and chicken fried steak"  lol!

Panino's isn't even open on a Saturday or Sunday but, when I go there, there are always Mexicans in there.
imho, the Gaucheria would do well to be open on Saturday and Sunday because of the extra parking that a closed Panino's provides. That logic seems to have escaped them completely. ;)

Sadly, the quality food that the former owners of Gaucheria offered seems to have escaped them, too. Sadly.
Panino's food? Still in Kansas.

I would be willing to bet serious money that her business is 90% foreign, 10% Mexican.
Eat there, and before in La Montana, 2 or 3 times a week, for at least 20 years.
The food is good for lunch (I'm hooked on her soups).....AND it's the closest to my house.   Very Happy
Best and only Irish stew in Mexico (once a month).  Bollocks!!!!     Oh well, carne in su jugo, the rest of the time when I'm in that frame of mind.
