Moderna vaccine says it provides immunity "for at least" 3 months. That seems almost useless to me.

It produces ANTIBODIES for at least three months. That's the way any illness or vaccine that produces antibodies works.
It is the memory cells which kick the antibodies into production the SECOND (third, fourth, fifth etc.) time that the virus is encountered.

Even though the number of antibodies fade over time, that’s not necessarily a cause for concern.

NIAID director Anthony Fauci and other experts have said it’s very likely that the immune system will remember the virus if re-exposed later on, and then produce new antibodies.

Encouragingly, the study showed that the vaccine activated a certain type of immune cell that should help out in the so-called memory response, but only longer term study will confirm if this will really be the case.

The human body is pretty smart. Think of everything that it's been exposed to over the course of a lifetime. It can't just keep endlessly producing those particular antibodies forever. So, it has a back up "hard drive" in memory cells that kick into high gear when antibodies to a previously seen pathogen are needed again. Ingenious.

How could one possibly check to see if these numbers are real? Are the hospitals reporting excess cases? Are funeral homes busier than usual? I don’t see the numbers peaking at all and yet news say that Mexico has one of the highest death rates in the world.

How would anyone know if the numbers are real? It's the official government site for Mexico. I prefer it to the numbers that Bisbee Gal is posting on TOB because this one shows that people can and do recover. Jalisco is up by 58 from Thursday to Friday (one day). It's a BIG state and less than a third of confirmed cases seem to end up in hospital.
