Why should the projects be funded by anyone other than the people collecting the taxes?

Because sometimes it's the only way to get things done? I am sure that the benches and the bridges are not a high priority for any administration struggling with the paltry tax base here.

Yup. And also from where it's not coming in. It's the same in OHA's where there are deadbeats who don't pay their fair share.
I really wish there was a system in place here where you could buy land for the back taxes (or OHA's) owed. That oughta get the deadbeats running to the tax office to pay what they owe.

Jaja!!! Yes alot of people that do not pay taxes. Unfortunately they are mostly Mexican .We can argue that point but it is obvious.
So that means it gets passed on to the foreign community.
I do not agree with the scam.

BUT the govt and locals count on it!
SAD!!

Not surprising because most of the people here ARE Mexicans.
SAT does a pretty good job of collecting ISR and IVA from Mexicans, not such a big deal with foreigners.
ISR and IVA are the two big biggest tax revenue earners for the government. The percentage of that, that comes from foreigners is miniscule.

(SAT is not San Antonio Tlayacapan, but Servicio de Administración Tributaria, similar to IRS or CRS, NOB.)

"Garden Guild Rolls Up Its Sleeves to Replace Ajijic Malecon Bridges"
The Guadalajara Reporter,  May 11-17, 2019, pg. 16

While the gardening guild was very generous with their donation, I let them know I was disappointed that there was no mention that this peoject was initiated by the members of Inside Lakeside nor the fact that we donated $13,000 MXN (25%) towards this too. That press release was written by the gardening guild who took all the credit. They assured me that any further press will give credit where it is due. If it wasn't for you guys this would not likely be where it is at today (new benches and bridges).

We are working as a team on this project so that wouldn't benefit anything at this point. They assured me they will correct the details for the next article.

Hector Espana has been working hard to get the materials and the labor to complete this in a professional and timely matter. I think the first bridge will be completed by tomorrow and the larger bridge by the end of this week or early the week after. We are still awaiting for several more pieces of lumber from the mill. That may be the only delay.

Really?? I'll bet 99% of the expats who have rentals here are not paying their income tax or city tax. I even know a few higher end B&B's who are not paying any taxes what so ever.

Any non citizens not paying taxes on their rental properties is stupid. The taxes are crazy cheap and the penalty is loss of property.

It’s not just people with rentals not paying. There are some expat people offering services that don’t pay taxes either. They won’t provide facturas for obvious reasons.

Is there a trend showing?
The Garden Guild did the same thing recently when they wrote and posted something about how they were involved in starting the Ajijic graffiti cleanup.  It was patently untrue.
Oscar,( Hector's brother) and Ann Lewis started it and brought in a gang of kids to help with the paintovers.
Since the government never gave the promised paint and brushes, pleas to local residents provided money for the needed paint and brushes and leftover paint from locals personal projects.
Oscar, Ann and the kids worked every Saturday for a year until the Garden Guild approached Ann and said they would like to take it on as a project.  By then Ann, Oscar and the kids were tired and were happy to pass it on.
The Garden Guild hired a local painter and his crew to continue painting out new graffiti as it appeared.
Their continuing the project was welcomed.
A year later an independent group stepped up to continue to remove any new graffiti as it appeared.

Well I, for one, want to give a big thanks to CBob, Hector Espana and Harry Bublin for spearheading the Ajijic Malecon project. They were the driving force behind all the public contributions and municipal help. Kudos to all of you! It looks wonderful!

The morning walk on the Ajijic Malecon yielded a look at the East bridge. Looking very good. Interesting to note that the yellow tape had no effect on the walkers who just lifted it and went on across. The Western bridge...no lumber on the frame yet.

Does anyone know what the huge pile of boulders at the East end of the park is for?

Hello all, I am coming around with "hat in hand" again looking for more donations. The estimate we had for the wood didn't account for the "spoilage" like we thought it would have. The spoilage is the unusable end pieces that occur when you have to cut lengths to match the existing joists. We also had to hire a couple of professional carpenters to ensure this job went quickly and professionally. If anyone has seen the first bridge which is completed you will see they did an AWESOME job.

The second bridge is only half completed and we have ran out of wood. We only have $9000.00 pesos left in the kitty but we need approximately $22,000.00 MXN to get the extra wood ($16,000 MXN) and pay the carpenter's ($6,000 MXN). That leaves us $13,000 pesos to drum up.

They cannot finish the second bridge until we at least come up with the money for the wood.

I know you guys did a great job contributing to the benches however If you are able to contribute more it will be greatly appreciated.

I will contribute another $1000.
