Ajijic Malecon Bench Project

Hello all, I am coming around with "hat in hand" again looking for more donations. The estimate we had for the wood didn't account for the "spoilage" like we thought it would have. The spoilage is the unusable end pieces that occur when you have to cut lengths to match the existing joists. We also had to hire a couple of professional carpenters to ensure this job went quickly and professionally. If anyone has seen the first bridge which is completed you will see they did an AWESOME job.

The second bridge is only half completed and we have ran out of wood. We only have $9000.00 pesos left in the kitty but we need approximately $22,000.00 MXN to get the extra wood ($16,000 MXN) and pay the carpenter's ($6,000 MXN). That leaves us $13,000 pesos to drum up.

They cannot finish the second bridge until we at least come up with the money for the wood.

I know you guys did a great job contributing to the benches however If you are able to contribute more it will be greatly appreciated.

I will contribute another $1000.

We have pledges for $7000 MXN so far. This is awesome. We just need $6000 more. Thank you very much for those who are helping out. The members of this board are the greatest. Time is of the essence as the second bridge will remain unfinished until we get the monies.

Wondering about on going maintenance for benches and bridges... Is it possible to purchase small engraved plaques (at a mark up of course)? I got to thinking about the bridges (as in crossing over) and I would like to buy one in memory of my hubby.

The Gardening Guild is getting the plaque honors due to the very large donation they made. That was our agreement with them.

We are up to $12,000 in pledges now thanks to a very generous member who PM'd me so I will respect their privacy. Any extra we can collect will go towards extra Urethane so we can re coat them every year.

Yesterday, we received another large donation of $6000 mxn from the Chapala Rotary Club so for other than the ones I am still collecting donations from, we do not need any more at this point. We should have enough left over to maintain the benches and bridges for a few years. GREAT WORK AND MANY THANKS. The members from Inside Lakeside will now be getting mention on the plaques that are going on the bridge.

The big bridge was finished today. They will apply the urethane coating tomorrow.

Now that the rainy season is coming to an end the benches and bridges need another coat of stain and urethane. I told Hector that if he can get the muni to pay for the materials that I (and hopefully a couple others) will do the work soooooo...........I'm looking for a few volunteers to come out and assist. Hector is going help too. I estimate with 5 or 6 people we should be able to do it all in one day.

Any volunteers out there? I'm not sure of the dates yet but suggested to Hector we get it done before the San Andreas fiesta which is 5 days from now.
